Posted on2 Years ago by
Using the washing machine for your laundry is an essential part of our daily life. Therefore, it is important to keep it clean. This not only helps to extend the lifespan of your washing machine, it also ensure that your dirty laundry comes out of the washing machine clean! Below are some of the steps to clean your washing machine at home, both front-loading and top-loading.

Front-loading washing machine
  1. Spray the internal drum with white vinegar. You can use a spray bottle and spray the inside of the drum. After whic, wipe the entire surface with a microfiber cloth, leaving no surface untouched. White vinegar is known to be one of nature’s best cleaning products that can easily cuts through residue, buildup and even grease.
  2. Check your rubber gaskets which are the seals around the door. Often, this is an area that traps scum, mildew, and even hair. Please wipe it carefully.
  3. Pour two cups of distilled white vinegar directly into your washing machine’s detergent dispenser. Now, set the washer to run on its longest cycle and with the hot water if possible.
  4. After Step 3, sprinkle half a cup of baking soda directly into the drum of the washing machine and run it on the same settings.
  5. Spritz your vinegar onto a microfiber cloth, clean the outside and inside of the door until it shines. Remember to run it along the entire front of the machine along with the knobs and control panel.
  6. Finally, to prevent mold and mildew, leave the door ajar, letting the machine air dry (or you can wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth).

Top-loading washing machine
  1. Set your washing machine to run on its longest and (if possible hottest) setting. Add in four cups of white vinegar, and turn it on. Once the drum is filled up, pause the washing machine and just let the water and vinegar sit for an hour.
  2. While you wait, you can wipe the rest of the washing machine’s surfaces. Spritz vinegar onto a microfiber cloth and run it along the top and bottom of the lid, the sides, and the front of the washer.
  3. Do pay attention to the washing machine’s detergent and fabric softener dispensers. You can use a toothbrush scrub their openings.
  4. Once the first cycle has ended, pour in a cup of baking soda and turn your washing machine back on for one more cycle with the same settings.
  5. Similar to the front-loader, you will need to dry your top-loader. The easiest way is to just keep the lid up until it’s dry, or you can wipe it out with a dry microfiber cloth.
